Congressman Carter chairs a subcommittee on Homeland Security. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) is at the forefront of using technology to help keep us safe. Carter seems to repeatedly struggle with basic technology concepts, such as encryption, during these hearings. With Russia using cyber-attacks to meddle in our elections and extortionist using ransomware to hold our money hostage, these issues must be seriously addressed. Carter’s lack of understanding puts us at risk and makes us less safe. I have an extensive background in science and computer technology. During these hearings, I would be able to comprehend the cyber threats addressed from the homeland security staff. That technical understanding will help me formulate sound strategies for DHS. Being able to draft appropriate legislation on this topic is very important. My skills would be an invaluable asset to Congress as we face these new changing threats in the 21st century.
